In recent years, I’ve always used a 3-way consensus to guide difficult decisions. Listening to the:

  • Head (logic)

  • Heart (emotion)

  • Gut (instinct)

If two of the three are in disagreement with saying ‘yes’ - I’ll probably say ‘no’.

But there’s a cool concept I stumbled upon that could be an even better compass for finding purpose, clarity, and confidence in how you live your life.

The noble eight-fold path is not just a core teaching in Buddhism, it’s also a highly practical guide for how we can overcome the everyday difficulties of life, and experience more often something along the lines of ‘happiness’ (whatever that crazy thing actually is).

The idea contains 8 things we should be using to guide our trajectory through life, but it is also known as the Threefold Way, as you will see, our 8 items each fall under one of the 3 key aspects of Buddhist life - ethics, mental discipline and wisdom.
